We work from a psychosynthesis framework. It is a holistic and transpersonal modality for psychotherapy and counselling in which the practitioners address the needs of the whole person.
You may come to session because you have been experiencing a hard-to-cope-with life situation, along with uncomfortable emotions or symptoms. The way that psychosynthesis works is not to see the symptoms as bad. Rather, they hold useful data about deeper things going on. So we might wonder together, “What quality of yourself is trying to emerge with you having this situation?”
knowing when it’s time to talk
You may be at the stage of just wondering whether counselling is right for you. Are you experiencing any of the following?
- relational difficulties or loneliness?
- a hard time building (or re-building) your career?
- a desire to direct yourself with more meaning or purpose?
- trouble changing some of your habits?
- challenged by coping with everyday things?
- a sense of loss, emptiness, or grief?
- difficulty bringing your vision into the world?
- crisis brought on by spiritual experiences?
- being blocked or stuck?
If you answered yes to even one or two of the above, ask yourself if you have any of these symptoms:
- anger
- depression
- a sense of futility
- doubt
- a feeling of powerlessness or helplessness
- a sense of inadequacy
- resentment or jealousy
- panic attacks or strong fears
the process of therapy
If you said “yes” again, psychosynthesis counselling or psychotherapy would be beneficial for you. That doesn’t mean to say that you’re somehow “sick” or “poorly adjusted” because you have symptoms! In psychosynthesis, symptoms and emotions are information. As you speak about them, our job is to hear what they are trying to “say”.
You may have delayed seeing a counsellor because you thought that you could “override” niggling, uncomfortable feelings, but as you engage the process of therapy, you increasingly honour your experience—all of it. The result is that you make more creative choices, and have more capacity for initiating changes you wish to make. There is more of you is available for your relationships, your work, your life. The more that you can integrate even those unwanted “shadow” bits of yourself into the “core” you, the more imbued with meaning, purpose, and wonder your life suddenly becomes, and you usually outgrow your old set of problems in the process!
If you’ve read along this far, you’re probably at least a little interested, maybe even intrigued. We invite you to join the mushrooming group of both individuals and organisations who have used a psychosynthesis framework to open to a more expansive way of working, relating, and living
