The lizard: my logo and model for adapting and thriving
Because Morphing.biz is all about improving the capacity of individuals to survive change and adversity – and even thrive through it – I wanted to find a symbol of resilience that was personally meaningful to me. As I recalled my years growing up in the desert of New Mexico, it struck me that a great model for robust survival had been right on my doorstep for all that time: the lizard.
When someone says, “lizard”, what words spring to your mind: scaly? Reptilian? Dangerous? For me, lizard is shorthand for resourceful, adaptable, and able to hang in there for the long haul. Who else do you know that’s as old as a dinosaur, but can still run 24 kilometres an hour? How many other animals can change colours to avoid being detected, or grow spikes all over their body? How many of your friends can give their enemies the slip by shedding a body part – and then regrowing it a few weeks later?
We human beings wring our hands and wonder how we’ll cope with the mere threat of recession, redundancy, or relational break-up. The lizard can teach us a lot about change, adaptability and survival. That made it a perfect symbol for my company, Morphing.biz.
What is your symbol for adaptable resilience?
